Placements24 is seeking a Forestry Officer to manage and conserve forest resources in the Richards Bay area. The role focuses on forest health, sustainable harvesting, biodiversity protection, and invasive species management.

You will collaborate with communities and researchers, conduct inventories, develop management plans, and respond to environmental emergencies. A strong background in forestry science and GIS is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field.
• Experience in forest management or conservation.
• Knowledge of forest ecology, silviculture, and wildlife management.
• Familiarity with GIS software and data analysis.
• Ability to work in outdoor field conditions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Conduct forest inventories and health assessments to monitor growth, disease, and pest infestations.
• Develop and implement forest management plans, including sustainable timber harvesting and reforestation strategies.
• Enforce forestry regulations and conservation policies to protect natural resources.
• Manage and control invasive plant and animal species within designated forest areas.
• Collaborate with local communities, researchers, and other stakeholders on conservation initiatives.
• Respond to and manage forest fires and other environmental emergencies.
