Placements24 is seeking a qualified Forestry Officer to join a client in Sandton, Gauteng. The role focuses on sustainable forest management, ecological surveys, and compliance with environmental regulations, supporting protection, regeneration, and forestry practices across managed areas in the region.

You will develop management plans, oversee field staff, conduct surveys, and prepare reports on conditions and conservation outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in forest management, conservation, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of forest ecology, silviculture, and sustainable forestry principles.
• Familiarity with forest inventory techniques and ecological monitoring methods.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage projects effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement forest management plans, including harvesting, reforestation, and conservation strategies.
• Conduct ecological surveys to monitor forest health, biodiversity, and the impact of human activities.
• Oversee forest protection activities, such as fire prevention and pest/disease management.
• Ensure compliance with national and local forestry laws and environmental regulations.
• Supervise forestry field staff and contractors, providing technical guidance and ensuring safety.
• Prepare reports on forest conditions, operational activities, and conservation outcomes.
