Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a meticulous Fiber Optic Network Designer to join our team in Pretoria, with a fully remote working arrangement. You will design high-performance fiber optic networks, create detailed layouts, route maps and specify components to meet capacity and performance targets.

Responsibilities include site feasibility studies, equipment selection, optical power budgets, CAD-based designs (AutoCAD, GIS), and maintaining accurate network documentation for telecom infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in designing fiber optic networks.
• Proficiency with CAD software and network design tools (AutoCAD, GIS).
• Strong understanding of fiber optic principles, standards, and installation practices.
• Knowledge of optical test equipment and methodologies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed design plans and schematics for fiber optic networks, including route maps and splice diagrams.
• Perform site assessments and feasibility studies for new fiber optic deployments.
• Select appropriate fiber optic cables, connectors, and equipment based on network requirements.
• Calculate optical power budgets and ensure signal integrity throughout the network.
• Coordinate with field teams to ensure designs are implemented accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain accurate network documentation and asset records for the telecom infrastructure.
