Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Data Scientist to support mining operations across South Africa from a fully remote setup. You will work with geological, operational, and financial data to build predictive models, identify trends, and deliver data-driven solutions that improve efficiency and decision-making.

Responsibilities include collecting and preprocessing large datasets, developing ML models for predictive maintenance and forecasting, creating visualizations for stakeholders,

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional data science experience.
• Strong Python or R programming with ML libraries.
• SQL expertise and experience with big data tech (Spark/Hadoop).
• Experience with cloud platforms and MLOps is desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets from mining operations.
• Develop, test, and deploy ML models for predictive maintenance and forecasting.
• Perform statistical analysis to uncover trends and anomalies.
• Create visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and operations managers to translate problems into data science solutions.
• Stay current with advances in data science, ML, and big data technologies.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and regulatory compliance.
