Job summary

Placements24 is partnered with a rapidly growing international software company seeking a Corporate Legal Counsel for their remote legal team. You will advise on corporate governance, commercial transactions, and compliance across jurisdictions from anywhere in South Africa.

The role focuses on IP management, data privacy (GDPR/POPIA), and supporting M&A due diligence, contract drafting, and policy development. Strong negotiation and remote collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the South African legal profession with 6+ years in corporate law.
• Experience drafting and negotiating international software licensing and SaaS agreements.
• Strong IP, data privacy, and governance expertise.
• Experience advising international technology companies is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and remote collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently with multiple priorities in a remote setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert counsel on governance, compliance, and regulatory matters for international ops.
• Draft and negotiate software licensing, SaaS, partnerships, and vendor contracts.
• Manage IP portfolio including trademarks and copyrights.
• Advise on data privacy laws (GDPR, POPIA) across jurisdictions.
• Support M&A due diligence and transactional matters.
• Develop internal policies to ensure robust compliance.
• Conduct research on new legislation and industry trends.
• Coordinate with external counsel worldwide.
