Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Remote Safety Officer to oversee health and safety across construction sites from a distance. You will develop safety plans, perform risk assessments, deliver virtual training, and maintain comprehensive safety records.

The ideal candidate has an OH&S diploma or degree, 4+ years in construction safety, and strong knowledge of SA regulations. You will conduct virtual inspections, lead incident investigations, and advise on PPE while coordinating with site teams remotely.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
• Experience developing and implementing safety management systems.
• Strong knowledge of South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act, Construction Regulations).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in remote collaboration tools.
• Experience conducting virtual inspections and audits is essential.
• Proficiency in using safety management software and digital reporting tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
• Valid driver's license and access to a reliable internet connection.
• NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, or similar professional safety qualification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures for construction sites.
• Conduct remote risk assessments and hazard analyses for all project activities.
• Plan and deliver safety training sessions and toolbox talks to site teams via virtual platforms.
• Perform virtual site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Maintain all safety-related documentation, including incident logs, training records, and inspection reports.
• Liaise with site management, clients, and regulatory bodies to address safety concerns.
• Stay updated on relevant health and safety legislation and best practices in the construction industry.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization and on project sites.
• Advise on appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment requirements.
