Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Remote Site Safety Officer to oversee safety programs for construction sites in the Eastern Cape, with regular virtual engagement and occasional site visits from Port Elizabeth. You will develop, implement, and monitor safety systems to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.

The role requires a National Diploma or Bachelor's in OHS, SAMTRAC/NOSA certification, and at least 5 years of construction safety experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of occupational health and safety management, with construction site exposure.
• In-depth knowledge of South African health and safety legislation.
• Ability to work autonomously in remote setting.
• Proficient in standard MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety plans and procedures per SA legislation and client requirements.
• Conduct virtual safety audits and site inspections via video conferencing.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; document findings and corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training including inductions and toolbox talks.
• Maintain safety records, reports, risk assessments, and incident reports.
• Advise site management on health and safety matters to promote a proactive safety culture.
• Ensure personnel hold necessary safety certifications and PPE.
• Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders on safety issues.
• Stay updated on changes in safety legislation and best practices.
