About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing fintech startup with a strong innovative spirit, is seeking a seasoned and strategic Remote Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead their financial operations. This executive position is fully remote, offering the opportunity to shape the financial future of the company from anywhere within South Africa. The CFO will be responsible for all aspects of financial management, including strategic planning, financial reporting, capital management, and investor relations. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with extensive experience in financial strategy, a deep understanding of startup environments, and a proven ability to drive sustainable growth. You will work closely with the executive team and board of directors to achieve ambitious financial goals in a dynamic, virtual setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company's long-term financial strategy in alignment with overall business objectives.
• Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), treasury, and tax.
• Manage and optimize the company's capital structure and funding activities.
• Lead investor relations efforts, including fundraising rounds and communication with shareholders.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting, both internal and external.
• Develop and maintain robust internal controls and ensure compliance with all financial regulations.
• Provide strategic financial guidance and insights to the executive team and board of directors.
• Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accurate financial projections.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks.
• Drive operational efficiency and cost management across the organization.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration (MBA preferred). CPA or CFA designation is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role such as CFO, VP of Finance, or equivalent, preferably within the technology or fintech sector.
• Proven experience in fundraising, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and capital markets.
• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing financial strategies that drive growth.
• Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.
• Experience working with boards of directors and investors.
• Knowledge of South African financial regulations and reporting standards.
• Ability to thrive and lead effectively in a fully remote, fast-paced startup environment.
• High level of integrity and ethical standards.
