Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a compassionate Behavioral Health Technician to support clients with mental health and substance use challenges, delivering direct care under licensed therapists. The role can be performed remotely through teletherapy and online support, with occasional in-person work in Upington region if required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Experience in mental health, addiction treatment, or related field is preferred.
• Understanding of mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and recovery principles.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
• Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and telehealth platforms.
• Empathetic and patient demeanor with a strong commitment to client advocacy.
• Ability to work independently and manage a remote caseload effectively.
• Knowledge of the challenges faced by individuals in the Northern Cape is beneficial.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct client care and support under supervision of licensed therapists and counselors.
• Assist clients in developing and implementing recovery plans and coping strategies.
• Facilitate group therapy sessions and psychoeducational workshops.
• Monitor client progress, behavior, and engagement in treatment.
• Document client interactions, progress notes, and treatment adherence accurately.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support as needed.
• Educate clients and their families about mental health and substance use disorders.
• Assist with treatment planning and coordination of care with other service providers.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for clients, whether in-person or virtual.
• Champion recovery principles and support clients in achieving their personal goals.
