Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Backend Engineer, Core APIs based in South Africa. You will design and scale real-time data processing and API services, primarily using Go and Node.js, in a fully remote engineering team focused on fraud detection for major tech organizations.

You’ll own features end-to-end, collaborate across distributed teams, mentor peers, and contribute to durable backend architecture while maintaining reliability and performance in a scalable, security-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Experience with Go and/or Node.js in production systems.
• Experience with scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Knowledge of SQL and databases like DynamoDB/Redis/Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with CI/CD workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend systems for real-time data processing and high-performance APIs.
• Build and improve APIs, microservices, and backend infrastructure with reliability and performance.
• Develop primarily with Go and/or Node.js, collaborating across services to deliver robust solutions.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate backend components and ensure scalable operations.
• Investigate complex features via deep dives, root-cause analysis, hypotheses, experiments, and data evaluation.
• Perform performance tuning, debugging, testing, and reliability improvements across backend systems.
• Share knowledge and best practices within the team and broader organization.
• Take ownership from concept through deployment and iteration.
• Participate in on-call rotation with advance scheduling and balanced coverage.
• Mentor junior developers and support technical growth.
