Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer, Core APIs (SRE Focus) based in South Africa. You will build core APIs and real-time data services, own reliability metrics, and operate production systems at scale in a remote, globally distributed team.

You’ll mentor peers, improve observability, and drive automated operational work while shaping cost-efficient, high-performance backend architectures.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience and production systems.
• Strong SRE practices: error budgets, capacity planning, production readiness.
• Hands-on Go and/or Node.js with Docker/Kubernetes experience.
• Experience with scalable backend systems and relational/non-relational data stores.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize high-performance backend services.
• Define and own SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for core APIs.
• Build observability with metrics, logs, tracing, and alerts.
• Participate in on-call rotation and lead post-incident reviews.
• Automate operational tasks and drive capacity planning and tuning.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain platform reliability.
