About the Role

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Recreational Sports Director to lead their diverse range of sports and recreational activities in Soweto. This role is fundamental in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle within the community by overseeing all aspects of recreational sports programmes, facilities, and staff. The Director will be responsible for developing innovative programmes, managing budgets, ensuring the safety and quality of sports facilities, and fostering positive relationships with participants, community groups, and local stakeholders. The hybrid nature of this role allows for strategic planning and administrative tasks to be conducted remotely, while requiring a strong on-site presence for programme delivery, event management, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive recreational sports programmes for all age groups and skill levels.

• Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of recreational sports staff, supervisors, and volunteers.

• Build and maintain strong partnerships with local schools, community organisations, and sports associations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in recreational sports programming and management.
• Proven experience in leadership and staff supervision.
• Strong knowledge of various recreational sports, their rules, and programming best practices.
• Experience in budget management and financial planning.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective marketing strategies.
• Proficiency in using sports management software and standard office applications.
• First Aid and CPR certification is required.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
