About the Role

About the Role Our client, a prominent Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to oversee their procurement operations. This role, based in Upington, Northern Cape , offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending essential on-site collaboration with remote flexibility. You will be responsible for sourcing and procuring a wide range of raw materials, packaging, and indirect goods, ensuring optimal cost, quality, and timely delivery to meet production demands. This strategic position requires a strong understanding of the FMCG market, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to manage supplier relationships effectively. You will play a key role in driving supply chain efficiency and supporting the company's growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for raw materials, packaging, and operational supplies within the FMCG sector. Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including supplier selection, negotiation, contract management, and performance monitoring. Analyze market trends, commodity prices, and supplier capabilities to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate risks. Collaborate closely with Production, Quality Assurance, and Logistics teams to ensure alignment with operational needs and quality standards. Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key suppliers to ensure supply continuity and foster innovation. Oversee inventory management for procured goods, working to optimize stock levels and minimize holding costs. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, company policies, and ethical sourcing practices. Prepare detailed reports on procurement activities, budget performance, and supplier KPIs for senior management. Lead and mentor a team of purchasing professionals, fostering a high-performance culture. Identify and implement process improvements within the procurement function.

Requirements

A minimum of 6-8 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, with a significant portion within the FMCG industry. Proven track record of managing complex sourcing projects and achieving substantial cost reductions and efficiency gains. Expertise in negotiating with suppliers and managing contracts. Strong understanding of supply chain dynamics, inventory management, and quality control in an FMCG context. Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced MS Office skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Experience managing cross-functional teams and diverse supplier bases. Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment.
