Placements24 is seeking an experienced Production Operations Superintendent for Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will lead day-to-day oil and gas production, manage a multidisciplinary team, and drive safety, efficiency and continuous improvement across processing facilities and well operations.

The role requires a strong technical background, a proven leadership track record, and the ability to deliver production targets in a demanding environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical preferred)
• Minimum 10 years of progressive oil and gas production operations experience
• At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Familiar with HSE regulations and asset integrity management

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage day-to-day production operations (well operations, processing facilities, infrastructure)
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental regulations and company policies
• Develop and implement operational plans and budgets to achieve targets and manage costs
• Lead, mentor and develop operations and maintenance teams

About the Role

Our client, a major operator in the upstream oil and gas sector, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Production Operations Superintendent for their facilities in **Mossel Bay, Western Cape**. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of oil and gas production operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally sound performance. You will manage a team of operations and maintenance personnel, optimize production processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to manage complex operational challenges in a demanding environment. This is a key position responsible for delivering operational excellence and meeting production targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and manage day-to-day production operations, including well operations, processing facilities, and associated infrastructure.
• Ensure all operations are conducted in compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Develop and implement operational plans and budgets to achieve production targets and manage costs effectively.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the operations and maintenance teams, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Oversee the implementation of maintenance strategies to ensure asset integrity and reliability.
• Monitor production performance, identify opportunities for optimization, and implement improvement initiatives.
• Manage emergency response plans and ensure readiness for operational incidents.
• Liaise with other departments, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure seamless operations.
• Champion safety initiatives and ensure a zero-incident workplace.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical preferred) or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in oil and gas production operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Proven track record in managing production operations and achieving targets.
• Strong understanding of oil and gas production processes, equipment, and technologies.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices in the oil and gas industry.
• Experience with budgeting, planning, and performance management.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage complex operational issues.
• Familiarity with asset integrity and maintenance management systems.
• Must be legally eligible to work in **South Africa**.
