Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Product Development Engineer in Randburg to lead mechanical design and bring new products from concept to market. You will prototype, test, refine designs, and ensure manufacturability with cross-functional teams in a hybrid work setup.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of product development experience, with strong CAD and simulation skills and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in product development and mechanical design.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software and simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, machining, stamping).
• Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of new products, from initial concept through to production readiness.
• Conduct feasibility studies, material selection, and component design for new product initiatives.
• Develop prototypes, conduct rigorous testing, and analyze results to validate design performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are optimized for mass production (DFM/DFA).
• Work with marketing and sales teams to understand customer needs and market trends.
• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and user manuals.
