Job summary

Placements24 in Randburg is seeking an innovative Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Development & Innovation team. This hybrid role blends on-site collaboration with remote flexibility, guiding products from ideation to prototyping and manufacturing preparation.

You will design with 3D CAD (Fusion 360, SolidWorks), build and test prototypes, perform analyses, and work with designers, electrical engineers, and software developers to deliver market-ready solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in product development and mechanical design.
• Proficiency in CAD software (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) and CAM basics.
• Experience with prototyping techniques (3D printing, CNC) and testing methods.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; creative design mindset.
• Excellent communication and teamwork; comfortable in hybrid environments.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop new mechanical products and features using 3D CAD.
• Build and test prototypes; perform validation and verification to meet specs and performance targets.
• Conduct material selection, tolerance analysis, and develop DFM guidelines.
• Collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and software developers to create integrated solutions.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies and materials to drive innovation.
• Prepare technical documentation including design specs, test reports, and manufacturing transfer packages.
