Job summary

Placements24 in Mahikeng, North West, seeks a Chemical Process Development Engineer to design, scale, and optimize chemical processes from lab to pilot and commercial scales.

You will collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure successful technology transfer, improve yield and safety, and document processes with PFDs, P&IDs, and mass/energy balances. A strong background in process simulation is required.

Qualifications

• B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process development, scale-up, or optimization.
• Experience with pilot plant operations and data analysis.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (Aspen HYSYS, Chemcad).
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct experiments to develop and optimize chemical processes.
• Perform process simulations and modeling to predict performance and identify issues.
• Develop detailed process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, and mass/energy balances.
• Manage process scale-up activities from lab to pilot plant and commercial production.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure successful technology transfer.
• Troubleshoot process issues and implement solutions to improve efficiency, yield, and safety.
