Placements24 in Nelspruit is seeking an experienced Chemical Process Engineer with scale-up expertise to join the team. You will translate laboratory innovations into viable, large-scale production processes, and oversee design, piloting, and optimization for smooth transitions from R&D to manufacturing.

The role requires strong knowledge of mass and heat transfer, process simulation, and data analysis, with a track record of trouble-shooting scale-up challenges and collaborating with R&D,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 5–10 years in process development and scale-up in the chemical industry.
• Experience scaling up reactions, separations, or formulation processes.
• Proficiency in process simulation software and data analysis techniques.
• Strong mass transfer, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics knowledge at various scales.
• Excellent problem-solving and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Lead scale-up from laboratory and pilot plants to full commercial production.
• Design, operate, and analyze pilot plant experiments to gather scale-up data.
• Develop process designs with P&IDs, equipment specs, and operating procedures for new processes.
• Conduct techno-economic assessments for proposed scale-up projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during scale-up and initial production.
• Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and operations teams to ensure successful implementation.
