Placements24 is seeking a Principal Information Security Consultant for a remote-first engagement. This senior advisory role will provide expert guidance and strategic direction to enhance the organization’s security posture across business units.

You will assess security risks, advise on best practices, and assist with the implementation of advanced security controls. The role demands a proactive, strategic mindset and the ability to operate autonomously from anywhere in South Africa.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent extensive experience in information security.
• 10+ years in information security with consulting or senior advisory experience.
• Deep knowledge of cyber risk, security controls and governance frameworks.
• Proven track record in delivering strategic security roadmaps for large organisations.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the current threat landscape and a proven ability to develop and implement effective security strategies. You will be responsible for assessing security risks, advising on best practices, and assisting with the implementation of advanced security controls. This contract position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in South Africa, collaborating virtually with a dedicated team. We are looking for a thought leader with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of tackling complex security challenges and delivering actionable recommendations. This role demands a proactive, strategic mindset and the ability to operate autonomously.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth security assessments and gap analyses against industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and present strategic security recommendations and roadmaps to senior leadership.
• Advise on the implementation of advanced security technologies and solutions.
• Assist in the design and enhancement of security policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
• Provide expert consultation on cybersecurity risks, threat intelligence, and incident response planning.
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing security controls and processes.
• Support project teams in integrating security considerations into system design and development.
• Mentor junior security staff and contribute to knowledge sharing within the security community.
• Stay abreast of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and cybersecurity trends, providing relevant insights.
• Facilitate workshops and training sessions on specialized security topics.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent extensive experience.
• 10+ years of experience in information security, with a significant focus on consulting, architecture, or senior advisory roles.
• Demonstrated expertise in multiple security domains such as cloud security, network security, application security, GRC, and incident response.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing successful security strategies for large organizations.
• In-depth knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST CSF, CIS Controls) and compliance regulations.
• Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment.
• Highly preferred: CISSP, CISM, CISSP-AC-MP, or equivalent advanced certifications.
• Experience in advising on threat modeling and advanced persistent threat (APT) defense strategies.
