Placements24 is seeking a distinguished Principal Exploration Geologist to spearhead discovery initiatives from our Durban base, KwaZulu-Natal. This senior role leads multi-disciplinary teams to identify and advance mineral targets across diverse terrains, with a focus on strategic resource exploration.

Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a highly respected name in the Mining exploration sector, is actively seeking a distinguished Principal Exploration Geologist to spearhead critical discovery initiatives from their base in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal . This senior position involves leading multi-disciplinary teams in identifying, evaluating, and advancing promising mineral targets across various geological terrains. The role demands exceptional geological interpretation skills, a deep understanding of mineral deposit models, and a strategic vision for resource exploration. You will be responsible for designing and managing exploration programs, interpreting complex geological data, and making high-level recommendations for project progression. Key Responsibilities

Lead the planning, execution, and management of grassroots and advanced exploration projects. Utilize geological mapping, geochemical surveys, and geophysical data to identify and define mineral targets. Interpret geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to develop robust 3D geological models and resource estimations. Oversee drilling programs, including core logging, sampling, and data verification, ensuring adherence to best practices. Conduct geological reviews and due diligence on potential exploration opportunities. Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and proposals for internal stakeholders and investors. Mentor and guide junior geologists and exploration teams, fostering technical expertise and collaboration. Manage exploration budgets, timelines, and contractor relationships effectively. Stay abreast of new exploration technologies, techniques, and scientific advancements in economic geology. Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and regulations.

Requirements

Ph.D. or Master's degree in Economic Geology, Exploration Geosciences, or a closely related field. A minimum of 12 years of extensive experience in mineral exploration, with a strong focus on identifying and delineating various deposit types relevant to the Mining industry. Proven track record in leading successful exploration campaigns and contributing to significant discoveries. Expertise in geological interpretation, structural geology, and mineral systems analysis. Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS) and database management. Strong understanding of geochemical and geophysical exploration methods. Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills. Superior analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities. Demonstrated experience in preparing technical reports and making compelling presentations to diverse audiences. Willingness to travel to remote exploration sites as required.
