About the Role

Our client, a leading international mining and exploration company, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Geologist specializing in mineral exploration to join their team in Upington, Northern Cape. This senior position will play a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and advancing new mineral exploration opportunities, particularly for strategic commodities. The ideal candidate will possess extensive field experience, a strong understanding of geological modeling, and a proven track record in successful exploration campaigns. You will provide expert geological guidance, lead exploration teams, and contribute to the company's strategic growth initiatives in the Northern Cape region. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage regional and project-scale mineral exploration programs, from initial reconnaissance to advanced target definition.
• Develop and implement geological models, integrating structural geology, petrology, geochemistry, and geophysics.
• Conduct detailed field mapping, sampling, and data acquisition.
• Interpret exploration data and identify promising areas for drilling and further investigation.
• Oversee and manage exploration drilling programs, including planning, supervision, and core logging.
• Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and resource estimations.
• Collaborate with geochemists, geophysicists, and resource modelers to integrate diverse datasets.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and community relations standards.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists and field staff.
• Stay abreast of the latest exploration techniques, technologies, and commodity market trends.

Requirements

• MSc or Ph.D. in Geology or a related earth science discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration geology, with a strong focus on exploration project leadership.
• Demonstrated success in discovering and defining mineral deposits.
• Expertise in geological mapping, structural analysis, and interpretation of geophysical and geochemical data.
• Proficiency with geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, ArcGIS).
• Extensive field experience in various geological settings.
• Strong understanding of mineral deposit types relevant to the region and company targets.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in remote locations and manage field logistics.
• Professional Geologist (Pr.Sci.Nat.) registration is highly desirable.
