Placements24 is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer for a globally recognized leader in renewable energy. This fully remote role lets you base in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, while steering electrical design for large-scale solar, wind, and hybrid projects.

You will mentor teams, shape grid interconnection strategies, perform power system studies, specify major equipment, and ensure NEC/IEC compliance. Pr.Eng. desirable; 10+ years in renewables preferred.

Qualifikationen

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized leader in renewable energy solutions, is seeking an exceptional Principal Electrical Engineer to join their pioneering team on a fully remote basis. While based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, this role offers complete remote flexibility. You will be a key technical authority, driving the electrical design and engineering strategy for large-scale solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects. This senior position requires deep expertise in power systems, grid integration, electrical infrastructure design, and project lifecycle management. You will mentor engineering teams, influence technical decisions, and contribute significantly to the company's mission of accelerating the transition to clean energy. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Develop and review high-level electrical system architectures, including grid interconnection strategies.
• Perform complex power system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability, grounding) and protection coordination.
• Specify major electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and inverters for renewable energy applications.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant international and local electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to electrical engineering teams.
• Collaborate with project development, procurement, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Conduct technical due diligence and risk assessments for potential projects.
• Innovate and implement advanced electrical solutions to improve project performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Represent the company in technical discussions with clients, regulatory bodies, and industry forums.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in power systems or renewable energy.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, with at least 7 years focused on renewable energy projects (solar, wind).
• Extensive experience with grid interconnection standards and practices.
• Proficiency in power system simulation software (e.g., "PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, DigSILENT PowerFactory").
• Expert knowledge of electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC) and renewable energy standards.
• Proven track record of leading complex electrical engineering projects from concept to commissioning.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) certification is highly desirable.
• Experience with energy storage systems integration is a plus.
