About the Role

Our client, a key independent power producer in South Africa, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Power Plant Technician specializing in Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGT) for their facility in Vereeniging, Gauteng . This role is crucial for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our state-of-the-art power generation units. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities on gas turbines, steam turbines, and associated auxiliary systems. This hands-on position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively within a team environment to ensure continuous power output.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and associated balance-of-plant equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections and diagnostic testing to identify potential issues and ensure optimal equipment performance.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults in a timely and efficient manner.
• Monitor plant operations via the Distributed Control System (DCS) and respond to alarms and abnormal conditions.
• Assist with the planning and execution of major overhauls and planned outages.
• Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports using the plant's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to ensure seamless plant operation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response and unscheduled maintenance.

Requirements

• National Diploma or relevant Trade Certificate (e.g., N3 Mechanical/Electrical) in Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a technician in a power generation plant environment, with specific experience on CCGT or large gas turbine units.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
• Experience with CMMS software for maintenance tracking and reporting.
• In-depth understanding of power plant safety procedures and lockout/tagout protocols.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently when required.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, and participate in an on-call roster.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Vereeniging area.
