Job summary

The role requires a Grade 12 or equivalent with a technical certificate, at least 3 years in power plant operations, familiarity with thermal plants, DCS, and the ability to work rotating shifts; a trade qualification is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification. A relevant technical certificate or trade qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Power Plant Operator or in a similar operational role within the energy industry.
• Familiarity with operation of thermal power plants or similar industrial facilities.
• Ability to read and interpret plant schematics and operational manuals.
• Strong understanding of safety principles and emergency procedures in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control power generation equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, and associated auxiliary systems.
• Monitor plant parameters and system performance using control room instrumentation and distributed control systems (DCS).
• Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, deviations, and abnormal operating conditions to maintain safe and stable plant operation.
• Perform routine checks, log operational data, and report any equipment malfunctions or operational issues to supervisory staff.
• Implement operational procedures and safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
• Participate in plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency response procedures as required.
