Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Operations Lead to manage port facilities in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will direct cargo handling, vessel berthing, and crew supervision, ensuring safety and efficiency across the terminal.

Lead continuous improvement, coordinate with shipping lines and authorities, and drive performance metrics while maintaining regulatory compliance. A strong background in maritime logistics and team leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in maritime studies, logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in port operations, terminal management, or maritime logistics.
• Proven experience in leading and managing operational teams in a port or terminal environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations at the port facilities, ensuring efficient and safe cargo handling, vessel berthing, and cargo discharge/loading.
• Develop and implement operational plans and procedures to optimize workflow and resource allocation.
• Lead, train, and manage a team of port workers and supervisors, fostering a culture of safety and performance.
• Coordinate with shipping agents, customs officials, terminal operators, and other relevant parties to ensure smooth operations.
• Monitor operational performance against key metrics and implement strategies for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with all maritime regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
• Manage equipment utilization and maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
• Respond effectively to operational challenges and emergencies.
• Contribute to strategic planning for port expansion and service enhancements.
