Job summary

impact.com is seeking a mid-level infrastructure engineer to join the Shared Services and Infrastructure team in Cape Town. You will design, deploy, and operate platform-layer infrastructure including Kubernetes, VPCs, and storage, writing production-grade Java code for infrastructure abstractions.

You will work with senior engineers to scale capabilities across 600+ product engineers. Experience with cloud deployments, Linux, and IaC tools like Terraform and Argo CD is essential.

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years of software development experience with Java or similar languages.
• Strong fundamentals; ability to write clean, reliable code.
• 1+ year hands-on experience deploying and operating in a cloud environment.
• Familiarity with IaC concepts and tools such as Terraform and Argo CD.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Implement infrastructure abstractions for platform teams using high-level requirements.
• Deploy and operate platform-layer infrastructure: VPCs, compute pools, storage, Kubernetes clusters, and networking.
• Own the operation of managed pub/sub messaging systems (e.g. Kafka).
• Consume Cloud Operations' IaC modules and provide feedback for improvements.
• Write production-quality Java code implementing infrastructure abstractions with security baked in.
• Participate in code reviews and help improve runbooks and operational practices.
