Pro Select Consulting in Durban is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring that company vehicles, plant, machinery and equipment are maintained, serviced and repaired efficiently.

You will allocate work to mechanics and workshop staff, manage spare parts procurement, monitor maintenance plans, and drive safety, cost-control and quality standards across the workshop.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification, preferably Diesel Mechanic or Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic.
• Minimum 5 years' relevant workshop experience with supervisory or management duties.
• Experience procuring spares and machinery.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsabilités

• Manage daily workshop operations and allocate work to mechanics and staff.
• Procurement of spares and machinery in collaboration with Head of Plant.
• Plan and monitor preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
• Ensure servicing according to manufacturer and company requirements.
• Monitor condition and availability of vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Maintain accurate service, repair and maintenance records.
• Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend corrective action.
• Coordinate breakdown responses and prioritise urgent repairs.
• Liaise with Site Agents and Operations regarding equipment availability.
• Arrange external repairs and specialist services.
• Monitor workshop stock and spare parts; ensure proper issuing/recording.
• Review repair quotations and monitor maintenance expenditure.
• Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs without compromising safety or quality.
• Ensure workshop employees follow health and safety procedures and use PPE.
• Supervise workshop employees, allocate duties and identify training requirements.

To manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop, ensuring that company vehicles, plant, machinery and equipment are maintained, serviced and repaired efficiently and safely while minimising downtime and controlling maintenance costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily workshop operations and allocate work to mechanics, technicians and workshop staff.
• Responsible for the procurement of all spares and machinery in collaboration with the Head of Plant.
• Plan and monitor preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
• Ensure servicing is conducted according to manufacturer and company requirements.
• Monitor the condition and availability of company vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Maintain accurate service, repair and maintenance records.
• Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend corrective action.
• Coordinate responses to breakdowns and prioritise urgent repairs.
• Liaise with Site Agents and Operations regarding equipment availability.
• Arrange external repairs and specialist services where required.

Minimum Requirements

• Trade qualification, preferably Diesel Mechanic, Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic or a related qualification.
• Minimum 5 years' relevant workshop experience, including supervisory or management experience.
• Experience with the procurement of spares and machinery.
• Experience with construction plant, heavy vehicles or earthmoving equipment.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems.
• Strong mechanical and diagnostic knowledge.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Experience managing workshop staff and maintenance budgets.
