Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of petroleum geochemistry experience preferred in Oil & Gas.
• Proven expertise in laboratory analysis of organic matter and hydrocarbons.

Responsibilities

• Analyze crude oil, natural gas, and rock samples using geochemical techniques.
• Perform organic geochemistry analyses, including Rock-Eval, biomarkers, and isotope analysis.
• Evaluate source rock potential, maturity, and depositional environment.
• Conduct oil-oil and oil-source rock correlation studies to understand petroleum systems.
• Interpret geochemical data to constrain migration pathways and timing.
• Collaborate with geologists and geophysicists to integrate insights into models.

About the Role

Our client, a key player in the Oil & Gas exploration and production domain, is seeking a qualified Petroleum Geochemist to join their technical team, primarily operating from Soweto, Gauteng . This role is essential for analyzing the chemical characteristics of hydrocarbons and source rocks to understand petroleum systems, identify potential reservoirs, and optimize exploration strategies. The Petroleum Geochemist will be responsible for interpreting geochemical data, including organic geochemistry and isotope analysis, to assess source rock maturity, migration pathways, and oil-oil/oil-source correlations. This hybrid role involves both laboratory analysis and data interpretation, with opportunities for collaboration with geologists and geophysicists. Requirements

• Proven expertise in laboratory analysis of organic matter and hydrocarbon samples.
• Proficiency with geochemical interpretation software and data management.
• Strong understanding of petroleum systems, source rock evaluation, and migration processes.
• Familiarity with isotopic analysis techniques is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and presentations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience working within the South African context is advantageous.
