About the Role
Our client, a key contributor to the Oil & Gas industry, is actively seeking a skilled Remote Geochemical Analyst to join their global team. This position is fully remote, offering the flexibility to work from any suitable location. You will be instrumental in analyzing the chemical composition of various geological samples, including crude oil, natural gas, and source rocks, to understand their origin, migration pathways, and maturity. Your expertise will provide crucial insights for exploration targeting, reservoir characterization, and production optimization. This role demands a meticulous approach to data analysis, strong theoretical knowledge of organic geochemistry, and proficiency with analytical instrumentation and interpretation software. We are looking for a self-directed and scientifically rigorous professional who can effectively collaborate with international, multidisciplinary teams in a virtual environment. Your work will directly influence strategic decisions in hydrocarbon exploration and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze geochemical data from samples (oil, gas, rock extracts, bitumen) using various techniques (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS, Rock-Eval, stable isotopes).
- Interpret geochemical results to determine source rock characteristics, depositional environments, and thermal maturity.
- Assess oil-gas correlations and migration pathways within producing basins.
- Contribute to the generation of petroleum systems models and risk assessments.
- Develop and validate new analytical methods and protocols as needed.
- Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers to integrate geochemical data into exploration and development projects.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations detailing analytical findings and interpretations.
- Maintain laboratory equipment (if applicable to specific remote setups) and ensure data quality and integrity.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in geochemical analysis and interpretation techniques.
- Manage and organize large geochemical datasets for efficient retrieval and analysis.
Requirements
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Organic Geochemistry, Chemistry, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in geochemical analysis within the Oil & Gas or related scientific industries.
- Proven experience with common geochemical analytical techniques and their interpretation (e.g., GC-MS, biomarkers, isotopic analysis, Rock-Eval).
- Familiarity with geochemical software and database management.
- Strong understanding of petroleum systems analysis and source-to-sink concepts.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
- Must be proficient in using standard office software and virtual collaboration tools.
- Must be eligible to work remotely from South Africa or a designated region.
Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with expertise and remote work arrangement.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
- Performance-based bonus opportunities.
- Flexible working schedule to optimize productivity and work-life balance.
- Generous allowance for home office setup and expenses.
- Continuous learning opportunities through online platforms and virtual conferences.
- A stimulating remote work environment contributing to impactful projects within the Oil & Gas sector.
