Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geochemistry or related Earth Science.
• 8+ years of progressive petroleum geochemistry experience.
• Proven expertise with GC-MS, ICP-MS, and Rock-Eval analyses.
• Strong understanding of organic matter, maturity, and isotopic analysis.
• Experience with basin modeling software and field data integration.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent exploration and production company, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Petroleum Geochemist to enhance their subsurface evaluation team based in Upington, Northern Cape. This key position will focus on applying advanced geochemical techniques to understand hydrocarbon systems, source rock characterization, oil-oil and oil-source correlations, and fluid phase behavior. Your expertise will be critical in identifying and characterizing hydrocarbon plays, guiding exploration efforts, and optimizing production strategies. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in geochemical analysis, interpretation, and modeling, with a deep understanding of basin evolution and petroleum systems. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geochemistry, Organic Geochemistry, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in petroleum geochemistry within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proven expertise in applying a wide range of geochemical analytical techniques (e.g., GC-MS, ICP-MS, Rock-Eval).
• Strong understanding of organic matter characterization, thermal maturity, and isotopic analysis.
• Experience with basin modeling software incorporating geochemical parameters.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Experience in South African geology or frontier exploration is a plus.
• Proficiency in relevant geochemical software and databases.
