Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Geology or Petroleum Geology.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in petroleum exploration geology, especially in new ventures/frontier exploration.
• Strong ability to interpret seismic data, assess prospectivity, and quantify geological risk.
• Proven skills in geological modelling and data integration (Petrel/Kingdom).
• Excellent written and verbal communication for reports and presentations.

About the Role

Our client, a progressive energy exploration company, is looking for a talented Petroleum Geologist to join their New Ventures team. This exciting role is based in Centurion, Gauteng , and will focus on identifying and evaluating prospective areas for hydrocarbon exploration within South Africa and potentially broader African regions. The successful candidate will leverage their geological expertise to analyze subsurface data, interpret seismic surveys, and assess basin potential. This position requires a blend of technical proficiency, creative thinking, and a strategic mindset to uncover untapped energy resources. Key Responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate new exploration opportunities through analysis of geological and geophysical data.
• Conduct basin analysis, regional studies, and play fairway mapping.
• Interpret seismic data, well logs, and core samples to define geological plays.
• Assess hydrocarbon potential, risks, and uncertainties associated with exploration prospects.
• Collaborate with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, and commercial teams.
• Prepare detailed geological reports and presentations for internal review and external partners.
• Develop integrated geological models incorporating seismic, well, and regional data.
• Stay current with geological concepts, exploration technologies, and industry trends.
• Contribute to the strategic planning of exploration campaigns and acreage acquisition.
• Maintain and update geological databases and mapping systems.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology or Petroleum Geology.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in petroleum exploration geology, with a focus on new ventures or frontier exploration.
• Strong proficiency in seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Experience with geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom).
• Demonstrated ability to assess prospectivity and quantify geological risk.
• Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex geological concepts clearly.
• Experience with geological datasets from various African basins is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Located or willing to relocate to the Centurion, Gauteng area.
