Job summary

Valterra Platinum Limited seeks a Patrolperson L1 to enforce routine security duties and protect people and assets at our Thabazimbi operation. You will follow established procedures, operate patrols and access controls, and assist in investigations as needed.

Applicants should have Grade 12 and PSIRA Grade C, with at least two years in security. English communication and incident reporting are essential, with a focus on safety and accountability.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and PSIRA Grade C registration are required.
• At least 2 years in security with supervisory exposure is advantageous.
• Must communicate in English and document incidents clearly.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The Patrolperson L1 will be responsible for the application of routine to skilled security procedures within a Valterra Platinum Operation to ensure that employees and assets are protected. The Patrolperson L1 will to a certain extent support with investigations and emergency protection duties as part of this role.

Quality security services

• Follow work instructions
• Ensure proper understanding of the required actions
• Accurately complete role administration requirements
• Report to Protection Services Officer when task is completed
• Identify and report all irregularities to Assistant Protection Services Officer
• Apply recognized work, legislative and security standards
• Ensure that security tasks are completed to required quality standards
• Conduct allocated patrols or checkpoint duties including ad hoc security assignment such as searches and roadblocks
• Assist with crowd management during community unrest or other emergency situations
• Conducts dog handing activities where applicable
• Competent to drive security vehicle when there is a need
• Gather information that could assist with risk management
• Take appropriate action on observation of risk situation.
• Respond to security alarms and take appropriate action
• Enforce and monitor access controls
• Take appropriate action when a security issue is observed
• Conduct surveillance activities to support investigation when required
• Effective use of allocated equipment such as radios and telephones
• Effective two-way communications with team members and visitors
• Promote security awareness by reminding team members to follow work procedures and identifying problems with work practices
• Maintains facilities, equipment and personal image up to a high standard of presentation
• Participating in required meetings including safety, health, environment initiatives
• Gathers information through cultivating sources
• Arrests all transgressors within the law
• Attend disciplinary enquiries as a witness/complainant
• Support and assist Patrolpersons when there is a need

Qualifications

• Grade 12
• Registered with the PSIRA on grade C

Experience required

• 2 years’ experience in Security environment or equivalent
• Supervisory experience advantageous

Technical knowledge

• Communications in English (spoken, written and reading)
• Writing of statements and opening of case dockets
• Handling of various emergency situations
• Psychometric Assessment for firearm users
• No criminal record
• Polygraph test
• Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
• Use of Force Procedure
• Valterra Platinum Rules of engagement
