Placements24 is seeking an experienced Operations Director - Mining to lead our client’s key mine site in Klerksdorp, North West. The role focuses on safe, sustainable, and profitable operations across underground and surface mining, including production, maintenance, and technology adoption.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years in mining operations, with at least 6 in senior leadership, and holds a Mining Engineering degree (Master's preferred).

Our client, a major player in the mining industry, is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Operations Director - Mining to lead all operational facets of their key mine site in the Klerksdorp, North West. This executive position requires a leader with extensive expertise in mine operations, safety, production, and resource management. You will be responsible for optimizing mining processes, ensuring compliance with stringent safety and environmental regulations, and driving operational efficiency to meet production targets and financial objectives. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of underground and surface mining techniques, excellent leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to manage complex operations and large workforces. This is a critical role focused on ensuring the safe, sustainable, and profitable operation of the mine.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and direct all mining operations, including production, maintenance, and technical services.
• Develop and implement strategic operational plans to achieve production targets and optimize resource utilization.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Manage operational budgets, control costs, and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of operational managers and staff.
• Oversee the implementation of new technologies and best practices in mining operations.
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, contractors, and community representatives.
• Ensure the efficient functioning of all mining equipment and infrastructure.
• Conduct regular operational reviews and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the operation in Klerksdorp, North West.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field.
• A Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in mining operations management, with at least 6 years in a senior leadership role.
• Extensive knowledge of various mining methods, processing, and equipment.
• Proven experience in managing large, complex mining operations and significant workforces.
