Job summary

ER24 Western Cape - East| Hermanus | South Africa are seeking an Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) to operate in pre-hospital emergency care settings. This entry-level role provides hands-on practice under supervision of EC Technicians, Practitioners and Medical Officers in diverse environments including rural, urban, coastal and mass gatherings.

The successful candidate will hold a Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care, with AHLS/CPR knowledge preferred.

Qualifications

• Essential qualification: Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care.
• Desirable qualification: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers.
• No prior EMS experience required (entry level).
• Desirable: 1-year operational experience as an Emergency Care Assistant.

Responsibilities

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) will practice as clinical assistants within the emergency medical care and rescue environment thereby replacing the Basic Ambulance Assistant Course as the entry qualification into the emergency medical services.

This position is an entry-level qualification and recognises the key competencies required of Emergency Care Assistants (ECAs) who will work under the guidance of Emergency Care Technicians, Emergency Care Practitioners and Medical Officers in a variety of contexts. Holders of this qualification will operate mainly in and around the ambulance, within wide ranging contexts, including rural, urban, military, coastal, corporate, mass gatherings, homes and workplaces. In general, the Emergency Care Assistant will provide a supportive service within the pre-hospital context.
