Job summary

DHL Global Forwarding is seeking an Ocean Freight Export Controller to join our Johannesburg team. You will coordinate export operations, ensure documentation accuracy, and liaise with customers and third parties to meet shipping requirements.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of experience, SARS knowledge, and CargoWise proficiency, with strong communication and planning skills; matric and a diploma are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years related working experience
• Regulation knowledge – SARS, road transport
• Proficient in Cargowise and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

• Co-ordinate, control, plan and manage all export procedures
• Process customer documentation within required timeframes
• Co-ordinate movement of cargo to meet customer needs
• Manage and monitor all parties within the supply chain
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers
• Support Operations Supervisor with system implementations and changes
• Book shipments with lines/co-loaders based on customer SLIs
• Arrange customs clearance and packing of customer cargo
• Provide bill of lading instructions to lines and generate cargo dues

Job Purpose:

To co-ordinate, control, plan and manage all aspects within the export procedure. The export controller is a vital link within the supply chain process and must have extensive knowledge on both local and destination requirements.

In this Ocean Freight Export Controller position

• To arrange bookings based on customer requirements with various nominated third parties to ensure customer needs are met
• To process customer documentation within a required timeframe in accordance to third party and local requirements i.e. customs, shipping lines
• To co-ordinate movement of cargo within required/stipulated time frames in order to meet customer needs
• To manage and monitor all parties within the supply chain
• To develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers
• Support Operations Supervisor with the implementation of new/change of systems, directives and distribution of information to staff
• Build and maintain relationships
• Book shipment with shipping line / co-loader based on customer SLI
• Register shipment on internal system
• Arrange customs clearance based on customer documentation
• Arrange collection / packing of customer cargo
• Supply shipping line with bill of lading instructions
• Produce cargo dues through portent
• Send SOB / Pre alerts to customer / destination offices
• Disposal of documents
• Invoice shipment based on estimate or rate agreements
• To produce thorough and accurate documentation ensuring customer satisfaction and compliance to regulations
• Supply estimates on customer request
• To participate within the department with regards to industry or regulation changes
• Customs rules and regulations
• Country rules and regulations local and destination
