DHL Global Forwarding, a leading logistics provider, has an opening for an Ocean Freight Export Controller in Johannesburg, South Africa. The role coordinates export procedures, handles bookings, documentation, and customs processes to ensure timely, compliant shipments.

You will manage the end-to-end export process, liaise with customers and suppliers, and contribute to ongoing improvements and system changes. A minimum 3–5 years of related experience and SARS knowledge are essential.

Responsibilities

• To co-ordinate, control, plan and manage all aspects within the export procedure.
• Arrange bookings with various nominated third parties to meet customer needs.
• Process customer documentation within required timeframes per regulations.
• Co-ordinate movement of cargo within stipulated time frames.
• Manage and monitor all parties within the supply chain.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers.
• Assist with system changes and distribution of information to staff.
• Book shipments with shipping lines based on customer SLIs.
• Register shipments on internal system, arrange customs clearance.
• Arrange collection/packing of customer cargo and provide bill of lading instructions.
• Produce cargo dues and send SOB or pre-alerts to offices.

Job Purpose

To co-ordinate, control, plan and manage all aspects within the export procedure. The export controller is a vital link within the supply chain process and must have extensive knowledge on both local and destination requirements.

In this Ocean Freight Export Controller position

• To arrange bookings based on customer requirements with various nominated third parties to ensure customer needs are met
• To process customer documentation within a required timeframe in accordance to third party and local requirements i.e. customs, shipping lines
• To co-ordinate movement of cargo within required/stipulated time frames in order to meet customer needs
• To manage and monitor all parties within the supply chain
• To develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers
• Support Operations Supervisor with the implementation of new/change of systems, directives and distribution of information to staff
• Build and maintain relationships
• Book shipment with shipping line / co-loader based on customer SLI
• Register shipment on internal system
• Arrange customs clearance based on customer documentation
• Arrange collection / packing of customer cargo
• Supply shipping line with bill of lading instructions
• Produce cargo dues through portent
• Send SOB / Pre alerts to customer / destination offices
• Disposal of documents
• Invoice shipment based on estimate or rate agreements
• To produce thorough and accurate documentation ensuring customer satisfaction and compliance to regulations
• Supply estimates on customer request
• To participate within the department with regards to industry or regulation changes
• Customs rules and regulations
• Country rules and regulations local and destination
