Job summary

The University of the Free State invites applications for a Simulation Coordinator (post level 9) on a contract appointment for 1 year, renewable. The role focuses on coordinating clinical skills and simulation-based education, OSCE assessments, and the management of standardized patients (SPs) within the CSSU.

The successful candidate will oversee SP recruitment, train and supervise instructors, ensure equipment readiness, and maintain infection control standards across simulation environments,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree on NQF Level 7 in Nursing.
• Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Education or Health Professions Education.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Minimum of three years of nursing practice (post-community service).
• Minimum of two years’ relevant working experience in higher education.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate clinical skills teaching and supervise learners’ practical skills development during clinical skills and simulation-based training.
• Provide operational support to clinical instructors and lecturers in sessions.
• Coordinate recruitment and scheduling of standardized patients (SPs) for teaching and assessment.
• Ensure SPs are trained to portray scenarios accurately and safely.
• Prepare and maintain equipment and simulation environments to clinical standards and infection control.
• Maintain and safety-check simulation equipment and storage.
• Invigilate OSCEs and assist with venue setup for assessments.
• Coordinate and recruit examiners for practical examinations.
• Recruit, prepare, and train Simulated Patients for OSCE examinations.
