Job Description
Purpose of the role
SmartStart is looking for a self-motivated anddriven person who will fulfill the role of being a mentor to our early learningpractitioners (Our SmartStarters). The incumbent will inspire and motivate newSmartStarters to start their programs and solve problems with them as theyoperate to make impactful and sustainable enterprises.
Responsibilities
SmartStart Club Coaches are mentors to ournetwork of early learning practitioners (SmartStarters) who run their ownindependent preschool social enterprises.
- SmartStart coaches recruit newSmartStarters.
- They license and qualityassure all the SmartStart practitioners.
- Build and encourage theSmartStart clubs (networks of SmartStarters).
- Drive and create understandingof and demand for quality early learning and importantly to coach and developSmartStarters to gain new skills and capacities.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Educated to tertiary levelpreferably (Community Development degree advantageous).
- At least a year’ experience incoaching/mentoring/ facilitation role and/or a management/coordinating role.
- Three years’ experience of ECDor a closely related sphere.
- A valid driver’s license andown car.
- Experience in the non-profitand/or development sector.
- Ability to maintain effectivequality assurance systems.
- Ability to collect and managequalitative and quantitative data.
- Ability to manage otherseffectively, to motivate, to elicit high performance and to facilitate personaland professional development in a supportive way.
- Ability to work independently,problem-solve, be flexible and take the initiative when presented withchallenges.
- Ability to build and maintainexcellent working relationships with colleagues at all levels of the SmartStartnetwork and beyond, and to work as part of a cohesive and supportive team,including the ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds.
- Ability to build, maintainexcellent working relationships with key stakeholders like CWP, DBE, circuitoffice and local municipalities.
Abilities, Skills, andAttributes
- Excellent organizational andplanning skills – including demonstrable experience of operationalizingappropriate systems and procedures, and of records management.
- Excellent management skills –including the ability to fulfill reporting, budgeting, and other requirements,and to ensure compliance with internal policies and standards.
- Good English written and oralcommunication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office –including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook – and in internet search anduse.
- Fluency in the dominant language of the area in which a coach is needed, which is Setswana.
Location, Hours, and Travel
- This is a full-time post andis based on the above-mentioned areas. The Club Coach is required to travelaround the district to various SmartStart sites.
- The working hours is 08:00 –16:30 however there could be work outside these hours depending on theoperational needs.
- Coach is expected to regularlytravel to Johannesburg for SmartStart meetings and events.
