Job summary

Placements24 in Paarl seeks a vigilant Mining Safety Officer to ensure a safe on-site environment, identify hazards, and drive robust safety management systems. You will conduct inspections, develop training programs, and investigate incidents to prevent recurrence.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of SA mining regulations, excellent communication and training skills, and experience in a hybrid work model balancing on-site presence with administrative tasks.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years in health and safety management within mining.
• Registered with a relevant professional body (e.g., SAIOSH).
• Strong knowledge of South African mining regulations (Mine Health and Safety Act).
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to conduct thorough investigations and implement corrective actions effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce the mine's health and safety management system.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and compliance issues.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommendations.
• Deliver safety training programs to employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and company policies.
• Maintain safety records and documentation, and participate in safety committee meetings.
