Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Mining Safety Officer to develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety programs at our Vereeniging operations. You will promote a strong safety culture, conduct audits, and ensure regulatory compliance to minimize mining risks.

The role requires a National Diploma in OHS or related field, 3+ years mining Safety Officer experience, MHSA knowledge, and strong communication and training abilities.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or relevant field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Safety Officer in the mining industry.
• Knowledge of South African mining health and safety legislation (MHSA).
• Proficiency in risk assessment and hazard identification.
• Strong communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• SAMTRAC or NEBOSH certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the site's Health and Safety Management System.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of mining operations, equipment, and facilities.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Provide safety training and awareness programs to all employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Prepare and submit safety reports to management and regulatory bodies.
• Promote and foster a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
