Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Safety Officer near Polokwane to promote and ensure a safe working environment. The role combines remote administrative duties with on-site inspections and training to uphold safety standards.

You will implement health and safety policies, conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, and deliver safety training while ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a strong safety culture on site.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Thorough knowledge of South African mining safety legislation and best practices.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment techniques and incident investigation methodologies.
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the mine's health and safety management system.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of all work areas and activities.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international health and safety legislation and standards.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization through effective communication and engagement.
