Placements24 in Bloemfontein is seeking an experienced Mechanical Field Service Engineer to provide on-site technical support, maintenance, and repair for heavy mining equipment. You will diagnose mechanical issues, guide client maintenance teams, and travel extensively within the Free State region to ensure minimal downtime and optimal equipment performance.

A mechanical engineering background and 5+ years field experience are required.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
• Minimum of 5 years hands-on field service experience in mining, heavy equipment or industrial machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
• Willingness to travel extensively within Bloemfontein, Free State region and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site inspections, diagnostics, and repairs of mechanical systems on mining equipment (hydraulics, pneumatics, drivetrains).
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical failures and implement effective solutions.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and routine servicing per manufacturer specs.
• Install, commission, and test new equipment at client sites.
• Provide technical training and guidance to client maintenance personnel.
• Respond promptly to service calls and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Maintain detailed service reports, documenting work performed and parts used.
• Adhere to safety regulations and site protocols during field operations.
• Manage service tools, spare parts inventory, and company vehicle.
