Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Mine Planning Engineer for a role near Paarl, Western Cape. You will develop short-term and long-term mine plans to optimize resources, production targets, and costs, using advanced mine planning software to design layouts, schedules, and sequences.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, at least four years of planning experience, and strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in mine planning, with exposure to open-pit or underground operations.
• Proficiency in mine planning software such as Desvik, Vulcan, or Surpac.
• Solid understanding of mining methods, equipment capabilities, and operational constraints.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and update short-term (daily, weekly, monthly) and long-term (annual, life-of-mine) mine plans.
• Create detailed mine designs, including pit outlines, haul road networks, and production sequencing.
• Perform reserve calculations and resource modeling in collaboration with geologists.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for potential mining projects.
• Ensure mine plans comply with safety regulations, environmental requirements, and company objectives.
