Mine in Hotazel NC is looking for a Mine Manager on a 12 MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACT
The Mine Manager is responsible for overseeing mining operations and ensuring that projects are executed properly from start to finish. This pivotal role demands a blend of technical expertise, managerial skills, and industry knowledge to ensure that mining activities meet production goals while maintaining high standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Plan production activities in terms of output quality and quantity, cost, time available and labour requirements
- Provide directional support for managing mining and plant operational scope
- Conduct pit inspections to enhance ore body knowledge and ensure effective communication of progress against the production plan
- Draft and implement policies and procedures in compliance with MHSA and other legislative requirements
- Maintain adherence to mining, safety, and organisational standards
- Foster and manage stakeholder relationships; proven ability to
- Collaborate closely with 2.1 appointee and cross-functional teams to achieve production targets, enforce operational discipline, control operational costs, drive efficiency improvements and uphold high safety standards
- Determine, implement and monitor production strategies, policies and plans
- Monitor production output and costs, and adjust processes and resources to minimise costs
- Direct production staff activities and monitor their performance
- Take all reasonable measures to ensure that the provisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act and its Regulations are implemented and adhered to at the Mine
- Maintain an effective risk identification and management system
- Ensure effective maintenance and hazard identification and medical monitoring records
- Management and coordination of the total allocated Production Area
- Manage the day‑to‑day operation of the mine
- Ensure that the work performed is in accordance with the prescribed training
- Ensure that the person performing the work has the required authority
- Manage the Tactical Plan (≤ 1 year)
- Manage the Strategic Plan (2–5 years)
- Capital project budgeting and coordination, including contract formulation
- Compile monthly, quarterly and annual mining reports for the operation
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering
- Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency essential
- Mine Overseer’s Certificate advantageous
- Minimum of 15 years’ operational mining experience in open pit
- 5+ years’ experience holding a 3.1 legal appointment or MHSA 2.6.1 section manager
- Proven experience managing the life of mine plan
- Strong background in continuous improvement, operational excellence, production strategy implementation and monitoring
- Proven experience in managing outsourced contracts
- Skilled in pit inspections, ore body/resource knowledge, and clear progress reporting
- Policy and procedure drafting for MHSA compliance and safety standards
- Strong understanding of mining operations and processes
- Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills
- Proficiency in mining‑related computer software
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in the mining industry
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer literate with an understanding of mine planning and critical thinking
- Ability to influence
