Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Systems Designer for a contract role based in Soweto, Gauteng. You will develop detailed mechanical designs, produce drawings and BOMs, and ensure compliance with project specs and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in mechanical design and strong CAD skills. You'll work with engineers and manufacturing teams, perform basic calculations and support prototyping.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design.
• 3+ years of mechanical design and drafting experience.
• Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Strong understanding of machine elements, materials and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

Develop detailed mechanical designs for systems and components using CAD software. Create technical drawings, schematics, and Bill of Materials (BOM) for manufacturing and assembly. Ensure designs comply with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. Collaborate with project engineers and manufacturing teams to resolve design-related issues. Perform basic calculations and simulations to support design decisions. Assist in the review of vendor documentation and technical proposals. Document design changes and updates accurately. Support the prototyping and testing of designed components or systems. Maintain clear communication regarding design progress and potential challenges. Contribute to the overall technical integrity of the project.

Requirements

National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design. Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design and drafting. Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks). Good understanding of mechanical principles, machine elements, and materials. Experience in creating detailed engineering drawings and BOMs. Familiarity with manufacturing processes and assembly techniques. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design work. Good communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines. Previous experience in a contracting role is advantageous.
