Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer for our Randburg, Gauteng client. You will design complex mechanical systems and assemblies, create detailed CAD models, and perform engineering analyses to ensure performance and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, lead design reviews, and mentor junior designers while maintaining rigorous documentation and BOMs. A strong background in CAD and manufacturing processes is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 6-8 years in mechanical design or engineering in product development or manufacturing.
• Expert in at least one major 3D CAD package (SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA).
• Strong grasp of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics and materials science.
• Experience with FEA and CFD software.
• Ability to manage multiple design projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leader in specialized equipment manufacturing, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join their engineering department in Randburg, Gauteng . This role requires a creative and technically proficient individual with a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles and advanced CAD software. You will be responsible for designing complex mechanical systems, components, and assemblies for new product development and existing product enhancements. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to translate conceptual ideas into detailed, manufacturable designs, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex mechanical systems, components, and assemblies using advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD Inventor, CATIA).
• Create detailed 2D and 3D models, drawings, and specifications for manufacturing.
• Perform engineering calculations, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and fluid dynamics, to ensure design integrity.
• Collaborate closely with engineers from other disciplines (electrical, software) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
• Participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and constructive feedback.
• Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for components, considering cost, performance, and availability.
• Develop prototypes and oversee testing, providing feedback for design iterations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during the manufacturing and assembly phases.
• Maintain design documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), technical drawings, and reports.
• Mentor junior designers and contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and standards.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• A Master's degree is advantageous.
• A minimum of 6-8 years of experience as a Mechanical Designer or Mechanical Engineer in a product development or manufacturing environment.
• Expert proficiency in at least one major 3D CAD software package (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA).
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software.
• Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and accuracy in design.
• Ability to manage multiple design projects and meet deadlines.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Randburg, Gauteng .
