Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Systems Designer for a contract role based in Soweto, Gauteng. You will develop detailed mechanical designs, produce drawings and BOMs, and ensure compliance with project specs and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in mechanical design and strong CAD skills. You'll work with engineers and manufacturing teams, perform basic calculations and support prototyping.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Design.
• 3+ years of mechanical design and drafting experience.
• Proficient in 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Strong understanding of machine elements, materials and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed mechanical designs for systems using CAD software.
• Create technical drawings, schematics and BOMs for manufacturing and assembly.
• Ensure designs meet project specs, standards and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with project engineers and manufacturing teams to resolve issues.
• Perform basic calculations and simulations to support design decisions.
• Review vendor documentation and assess proposals.
• Document design changes accurately and support prototyping and testing.
• Maintain clear progress communications and contribute to project integrity.
