Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Mechanical Engineer for its Mossel Bay, Western Cape operations. You will design and optimize mechanical systems for wind or solar energy projects, applying CAD tools and advanced analyses to ensure reliability and efficiency.

The role requires a minimum of 5 years in mechanical design, strong thermodynamics and fluid mechanics knowledge, and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset. Travel to project sites may be needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design/engineering experience; renewables a plus.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering analysis tools (FEA/CFD).
• Strong thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and materials knowledge.
• Experience with documentation and project management principles.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for renewable energy apps using CAD.
• Perform structural, fatigue, thermal, and fluid analyses to ensure performance.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and project managers on system integration.
• Prepare drawings, specifications and BOMs with detailed documentation.
• Oversee manufacturing and assembly of mechanical parts for quality control.
• Conduct site assessments, monitor installed systems and implement improvements.
• Stay current with renewables technologies and participate in feasibility studies.
