Placements24 is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC systems design for a Vereeniging-based consultancy. You will lead the full lifecycle from load calculations to detailed drawings and site supervision.

Qualified candidates have a bachelor's in mechanical engineering with at least four years of HVAC design experience and proficiency in AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP, plus knowledge of SANS and energy standards. On-site in Vereeniging with occasional site visits.

About the Role

A leading engineering consultancy firm is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC Systems Design to join their established team in Vereeniging, Gauteng . This role is crucial for designing and implementing efficient and effective heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a diverse range of commercial and industrial projects. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of HVAC system design, from conceptualization and load calculations to detailed drawings, specifications, and site supervision. This position requires a strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and building systems integration. The role is primarily based in the office to facilitate collaboration with project managers and site visits as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration, for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. Perform detailed calculations for heating and cooling loads, airflow rates, and equipment sizing. Prepare comprehensive HVAC design documents, including drawings, specifications, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ). Utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP) to create detailed design plans. Select appropriate HVAC equipment, such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, and ductwork, based on project requirements. Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and energy efficiency regulations. Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and electrical engineers to ensure integrated building system design. Conduct site visits for project assessment, installation supervision, and problem-solving during construction. Perform system commissioning and provide post-installation support. Prepare technical reports and present design proposals to clients.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 4 years of experience in HVAC system design, preferably within a consulting engineering environment. Proficiency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP. Strong understanding of psychrometrics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and HVAC system components. Knowledge of building codes and industry standards related to HVAC systems. Experience with energy modeling software is a plus. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a project team. Must be willing to work full-time on-site in Vereeniging, Gauteng , and undertake occasional site visits. Professional registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration is an advantage.
