Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanical Engineer in Midrand, Gauteng to design, specify and manage HVAC systems for commercial and industrial projects. You will collaborate with architects and other engineers to ensure energy-efficient, compliant building environments.

The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree with HVAC specialization and 4+ years of design and project engineering experience, plus proficiency in AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with HVAC specialization.
• 4+ years of HVAC design and project engineering experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
• Familiarity with SA building codes and SANS standards.
• Experience with energy modeling and sustainable design practices is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; able to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
• Prepare detailed calculations for heating and cooling loads, air distribution, and equipment sizing.
• Produce design documents, including drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
• Select and specify HVAC equipment, such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, and diffusers.
• Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, verify installations, and provide technical support.
• Liaise with clients, architects, and other consultants to ensure project requirements are met.
• Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards, and energy efficiency regulations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC system issues during design, construction, and operational phases.
• Manage HVAC project timelines and budgets effectively.
